Smiley Library

If only I could upload more pictures to one post.
These ones I chose to demostrate the beauty of Smiley Library and also the people I saw represented there.
There was a lack of black culture, I thought. I saw signs, a carpet, and other spanish oriented aspects, as well as examples of asian culture. But there were very few books or pictures representing black culture.

Very well composed pics Carey. Your comment about the lack of African American representation is Smiley Library is well taken. The founders of these institutions were generally fathers of the Anglo complextion. Everyone else was seen as playing minor roles.
Next door in the Lincoln Shrine there were some beautiful murals of African Americans as they were freed from slavery. They look kind of pasive rather than active participants in thye making of their own freedom. Are they being depicted as gratefull and subservient to those who freed them?
